MOD #4 - PRINT SERVER LED - 10/12/01 |
Well, it's been awhile
since I took something apart....and, well, I got really bored one
day when I was sick. This poor little print server was
sitting on my desk with it's sickly little green LED...sitting on
a shelf I had 2 ultra-bright blue's leftover from the Case LED
mod...and...would you look at that, the print server uses 5mm
LEDs...faster than a speeding bullet, out comes the soldering
iron, a pair of wire cutters and the digital camera.
|

Red on the left, green on the right. |

Right angle green on the ehternet jack. |
As you can see, it's
pretty simple, 3 LEDs...2 green, 1 red. The ethernet one is
at a right angle and I don't have the patience for that, so we
leave that one alone. The red one is cute, rather bright and
almost never light up...don't touch him either...but that green
one...always on...he'll be our victim today. As you can see
though, the LEDs mount right on to the board...quite a bit of a
pain to remove...
|

The naked PCB. NC-17 rating I tell ya. |
Took about 20 minutes to
coax that LED out though...quite a pain for such a simple mod.
But hey, it looks nice and matches my case quite handsomely now.

The new LED on the naked board.
Cover the kids eyes! |

All dressed in the dark. |

Back together under a bright flash. |
Course, the green LED on
my monitor is starting to look like a tempting target now...but do
you really want 2600 MCDs worth of light pointed right at you
while you're trying to play UT?
Hmmm...
Maybe...
