Here's the latest
breakdown:
Status as of 10/23/2001:
In
the Beginning - 9/27/2001
In the beginning, there
was a PC...and it was huge. An In-Win Q500 full tower.
And inside said case was an Asus P2B with a P3-500, 3x128 meg ECC
Dimms. Hanging off of that we had a Voodoo5 5500 PCI, a
Intel Pro100 Dual Port NIC, a Sound Blaster Live! Platinum with
Live!-Drive and an Adaptec 2940u2w SCSI card. For drives we
had 2 Seagate 9.1g u2w SCSI drives, a Plextor UltraPlex 40x Wide
SCSI CD-Rom and a Plextor UltraPlex 4x12x SCSI-2 CD-R. Plus
your requisite 3.5" Teac floppy drive and a generic 300w PSU.

The SB-Live! Platinum |
All in all an okay
system...and all SCSI! Woo! Nothing like no IDE drives
eating up CPU cycles.

SCSI-2, UW and U2W! Woo! |

The Plextor UltraPlex 40x Wide CD-Rom
and PlexWriter 4x/12x CDR |
...but, such is the way of a nerd...the
urge to upgrade took hold.
Sick of moving a 40lb.
full tower case, it was targeted as the first item to go. A
convenient trade of a 4 port KVM with a gullible member of QA
(hi!) and a few days later enters the Lian-Li PC68 USB mid-tower
case. The soon-to-be victim of many a dremel attack.
The In-Win Q500 found a new home in the care of another RCN
employee. All the SCSI hardware is still looking for a good
home...*hint hint*

Next on the hit list was all the SCSI hardware. One IDE HD
and one CDRW would allow for the removal of the 2 hard drives,
CDRom, CDR, SCSI card and 4 different flavors of SCSI cables.
Enter the Seagate Barracuda IV 40gb Ultra ATA hard drive and the
Plextor UltraPlex 24x/10x/40x CD-RW. The quietest hard drive
I've ever owned, and the damned fastest burner I've ever owned as
well.

So that's where my box
finds itself, this 10th of October in the year 2001. I'm
sure it will see many more hardware changes over the weeks
ahead...
